More Uprising in Milwaukee Over Black Death by Police

Shots fired as Milwaukee erupts

Let’s have a look at some facts;

Earlier, police chief Edward Flynn said the man whose death touched off the rioting was shot after he turned towards an officer with a gun in his hand.

Mayor Tom Barrett said a still image taken from the footage clearly showed a gun in 23-year-old Sylville K. Smith’s hand as he fled a traffic stop. “I want our community to know that,” Mr Barrett said.

And again;

Mr Flynn declined to identify the officer who shot Mr Smith but said he was black. The police chief said he was unsure what prompted the stop but described Mr Smith’s car as “behaving suspiciously”.

And more;

“It was in his hand. He was raising up with it,” the chief said. He said the officer had told Mr Smith to drop the gun and he did not do so.

Ok, so that is some selective quoting, but that is enough for me to make a conclusion that any uprising is completely unjustified and unfortunately the death is the complete responsibility of the black victim.

Obama could quell racial tensions by calling these points to national attention despite any findings being concluded yet. However, I am not convinced Obama will point to these salient home truths but allow racial tensions to fester while sounding eloquent and concerned.

Well, that is what he has done previously.
